Inland Empire is the popular informal name for the region located at the eastern end of the Greater Los Angeles Area.  The name "Inland Empire" was first used in the 1950s to distinguish the region from the communities of the Los Angeles area, and Los Angeles itself. The Inland Empire includes the cities in both the Riverside and San Bernardino Counties.

"Larger than Rhode Island, Connecticut, and Delaware combined, the Inland Empire encompassing the mountain ranges to the north and sunny farmlands, orchards, and vineyards along the lush Santa Ana River Valley is truly an empire." California Travel & Tourism Commission.
